Xiaomi in India

Continuing with the theme of creating a ‘need’ for a commodity product, Xiaomi has ‘invaded’ the Indian market with a similar strategy. The company is offering phones but only by pre-registration. In other words, you have to order first and then you have the potential to get a phone. Registration is by July 21st and if you miss it, a Xiaomi phone will not be yours.

In China, registering merely provided one the ability to join in a Xiaomi phone lottery. It did not ensure one would receive a phone on the day of the roll out. In fact, few if any people did in the first offerings. Many had to wait a month or more for the phone that they had registered and paid to buy.
