Xiaomi is teasing its fan boys, which now include not only Chinese but many in the west, with its newest offering- something thin!
As shown in the following, they will soon be offering a product ‘As thin as the wings of a cicada.
Coming January 15
Launched in 8 days’
Another possibility is that they will produce the world’s thinnest phone, an honor which the Gionee Elife currently holds. The photo below shows how far Xiaomi would have to go to achieve this goal. The wafer thin Gionee is sandwiched between a Redmi 1S and Iphone 5 for reference.
Being the masters of selling the sizzle but producing no steak, I have my doubts that the 15th will bring anything of merit. Xiaomi has proven nothing, if it has shown its inability to break new ground.
Xiaomi. A history of blah
For example, Xiaomi touted its Note, which was to design what Obama and Bush were to defending the Constitution, the definition of a gross miscarriage of anything reasonable. It then revisited that visual monstrosity with an even plainer version but only in a different color. Xiaomi then continued that tradition with the MI4 by inventing it in black. I don’t know about you, but ‘earth shaking change’ means more than just modifying a color, at least to me.
I could go on, but I’m sure you get my point, Xiaomi cannot innovate. They are at their best when taking a great design, breaking it down to its sub component parts, outsourcing those to suppliers, reassembling them in a perfect copy of the original and then selling it.
My prediction, the world’s thinnest battery brick
I’m going out on a limb here, but here is my call. Xiaomi will ‘invent’ the world’s thinnest battery brick. Such a thing is no stretch of the imagination. This is their smallest unit yet.
Why this makes sense
The word is out that Xiaomi is working on a 2000 mA batter which is crazy thin. Such tech would not be enough to power their phones due to battery load and requirements. It would be perfect for an IPod or charger, however.
You heard it hear first
Bookmark this page and return on the 15th. If my intuition is right, this next great thing will be little more than a yawner. Lei Jun and company’s last great thing was an air purifier which went over like a fart in church. It was little more than a ripple followed by uncomfortable silence and titters.
Simply put, Xiaomi can only pack good tech into cheap phones, period. After all, when was the last time you saw a Xiaomi product and said, ‘Wow, I’ve never seen that before!’
