Xiaomi’s Big Event all Blow and No Show

At its big product launch last week, Xiaomi was all about the sizzle but we left with a fizzle. Lei Jun promised something thin, and what was delivered was something not. For all his bluster, Lei Jun let us down.

There is one Chinese company, however, who did not. That firm is Gionee which did make a pretty thin phone. In fact, it makes my Redmi look obese in comparison.

Here is that stealth little darling sitting behind chicklets.20150125-031654-11814040.jpg
I’m not even kidding you. This Gionee Elife, won the Guinness Book of world’s record for producing the thinnest phone last year.

Its no slouch in the looks category either. Sure it could be mistaken for an Apple, but then again, its following Xiaomi’s lead. Here is my Elife sitting by its quarter bro, the Redmi.

Now for the kicker I’ll compare the two phones and let pictures tell the tale. As is custom, they are photoed with chicklets for comparison sake.

Wow, the freaking Redmi’s mastadon-like physique stands in marked contrast to the svelte Elife. In fact, toting the former feels like dragging your buddy down the mean streets of Jalalabad, while helium light Elife barely requires effort.

I guess this just goes to show that some Chinese companies can produce cell phones ‘as thin as a cicada’s wing’. It just so happens that the company is not Xiaomi.
