Xiaomi is China’s top dog in terms of phone sales, which is a pretty cool thing. The not-so-cool part is that they make little cash. The even more ‘not-so-cool’ part is that Apple, I mean the real Apple and not the ‘Chinese Apple’ laps up 93% of global handset profits. This leaves companies such as Xiaomi to lick up the crumbs that Cupertino ‘Cream’ leaves behind.
Sad isn’t it? All those cell phone makers left to divvy up 7% of the profits amongst themselves. Last year, things were worse, however, as between them, Apple and Samsung accounted for over 120% of global profits. In other words, most of the rest actually sold at a loss.
My question is how Xiaomi can be the next Apple when they don’t even register on the money-making radar.
